1st Annual Flapjacks for the Foundation
On October 22, 2011, the Bent Tree Foundation held its first “Pancakes for Paws” fundraiser. The purpose of this gathering was to raise funds for the construction of a stray animal facility in Bent Tree. This event was held at the FATZ Restaurant in Jasper and was a huge success. The volunteers from Bent Tree served 176 people a delicious FATZ breakfast. In addition, the Foundation raffled a Kindle, an iPod and a gift certificate from Mountain View Pet Lodge. A great time was had by all.
Our current single kennel where stray animals are housed is near the trash collection area and is woefully inadequate. It is the goal of the Bent Tree Foundation to construct a facility that can house more than one stray animal and house them in a much safer and more comfortable manner during their temporary residence until an owner can be found. The proposed Stray Animal Facility will have running water, heat in the winter, coolness in the summer on the days when the temperatures are dangerously high, separate kennels within the facility for when we have more than one animal, an exercise run behind the facility, and storage for the necessary supplies. This facility will be built under the supervision of one of Bent Tree’s premier builders and will be located near the Cottage.
This new facility will be appreciated by more than just the animals. The job of the wonderful volunteers and members of the Public Safety staff who feed, walk, and give general care to the animals will be made much easier, more efficient and more pleasant. This first “Pancakes for Paws” raised sufficient funds to begin the grading and construction of the facility. On April 14, 2012, we will be hosting our second “Pancakes for Paws” where we hope to raise the balance of the funds needed to complete the project.
The Foundation is most grateful for the generous support our community has shown this project.
