For several years the Bent Tree Foundation hosted the annual golf tournament “Longest Day of Golf” to raise money for scholarships for qualified Pickens County seniors and classroom grants. In 2019, under the direction of Dino Colston and Carol Carlsen, the format of our annual tournament was redesigned. The product of their efforts is our new annual tournament “The BTFI Golf Team Challenge for Scholarships and Grants”. Dino and Carol also led the tournament in 2020. Brian Orletsky, assisted by Mike Moffitt, took over responsibilities of this event for 2021 and 2022. Zandra Sommer then assumed the leadership of this fundraiser in 2023. Following Zandra, Judy Crain led the tournament in 2024 through 2026. Judy was able to obtain gift certificates from other golf courses to be used as prizes.
Teams of foursomes seek donation pledges, and each team that raises $1,000 will have a scholarship or teacher’s grant named after their team.
