The Challenge – Both Accepted and Conquered
By Carol Carlsen and Dino Colston
Thanks to the generosity of Bent Tree golfers and friends, the first annual Bent Tree Foundation Golf Challenge was deemed a great success. The donations, which totaled over $8,200, are sure to bring joy to a number of deserving local students and teachers in the form of scholarships and teacher’s grants. None of this could have been accomplished without the help of eight different Bent Tree groups and, and their supporters, who participated in the Challenge. The groups included the Sunday Golf and Grins Group, the Bent Tree Thursday Night Poker Club, the BTLGA 18 Holers, the BTLGA 9 Niners, the Bent Tree Men’s Bible Study Group, the Ten Dollar Bunch, Steve Crain’s CAD Home Design Group and the Friday Afternoon Couples Group.
The golf scramble format was a lot of fun, with Steve Crain, Bobby James and grandsons Luke and Josh taking home the “trophy” after shooting a gross score of 57 (net 55.19). Great shooting, gentlemen! After golf, a number of the 44 players enjoyed one of the tasty “Burger and Beer” specials provided by the staff at The Tavern. A huge thanks to Golf Pro Russell Smith and The Tavern Manager Connie Rau for your help in making this a successful and memorable event.
Who knows? Perhaps next year we will have enough golf teams to warrant having men’s division, women’s and couples divisions. But for now let’s enjoy the memories and take pride in the positive difference we have made in our community.
