2019 Wines of the World – The Best One Yet!
by Colin Thompson
WOW – what a great event! We had 130 people attend this year’s “Wines of the World” fundraiser on September 19. This was our eighth “Wines of the World” and some said it was the best yet! As always, we appreciate Trouts Beverages and Such Patel for providing the distributors for this event. Please support Trouts Beverages and thank Such for his willingness to continue Jack Short’s legacy.
This year our culinary delights were prepared by Chef Tulio and Connie from The Tavern. Beautifully presented meats, cheeses, fruits and nuts were offered in the Fireside Lounge where all enjoyed the delightful duo of Ellen Whitten on the piano and Mitch Henson on the saxophone. At the same time, delicious hors d’oeuvres were expertly passed by Dominique and Sydney from The Tavern. Our thanks to all the Board members and their spouses for their hard work in setting up the event and the clean-up afterwards. Without all the efforts of our volunteers and without our generous donors, the Foundation’s missions could not be accomplished; and for that the Foundation is extremely grateful.
Loyal supporters purchased raffle tickets hoping to win one of the eight raffle prizes – a bottle of Van Gogh Gin won by Lee Cox; a bottle of Bushmill’s Malt Whiskey won by Keith Hunter; a bottle of Crown Royal Special Reserve won by Terry Franzen; a bottle of Lagavulin Scotch Whiskey won by Sue Williams; a beautiful wine cooler won by MaryAda Kidd; a $50 Honeybaked Ham gift certificate won by Lue Dunagan; a $25 Tom’s Awesome Seafood gift certificate won by Kellie Bertram and a $25 Tom’s Awesome Seafood gift certificate won by Elden Bonnette.
Over $4,000 was raised to be used for senior scholarships and for Pickens County school grants. The Foundation continues its mission to touch the lives of Pickens County students!
