All too often, stray animals – dogs and cats – are found roaming inside Bent Tree. Sometimes they are simply lost and require nothing more than checking their collar for a phone number and contacting the owner. But most of the time these pets are unidentified, lost or abandoned and need care – both shelter and medical. When this happens, a small team of Bent Tree volunteers step in to assist by feeding and walking and taking these animals to a veterinarian if necessary. For a long period of time these food and medical expenses were paid out of the volunteers’ pockets.
Having seen the need, the Bent Tree Foundation established a Stray Animal Care Fund which is dedicated, with the assistance of our wonderful volunteers and Public Safety, to helping cover the medical expenses required to keep these animals well cared for as the volunteers attempt to find them loving new homes if their original owner cannot be located. This is an on-going need because as medical expenses are incurred and paid for by the Foundation, new donations are required to keep the fund solvent. It is for these reasons that the Foundation asks the Bent Tree community to dip into their hearts and their pocketbooks by contributing to this worthwhile cause.
Additionally, the Bent Tree Foundation raised the funds necessary to build the Bent Tree Animal Shelter which is located behind The Cottage. The Foundation owes a huge debt of gratitude to all the donors who made the Shelter a reality and to all the volunteers who spent so many hours of effort actually constructing the Shelter.
