Run for the Roses
Run for the Roses 2011
The Bent Tree Foundation sponsored its first “Run for the Roses” event on May 7, 2011. The Kentucky Derby event was a great success with approximately 100 people in attendance. The ambiance, refreshments and Derby Day festivities were enjoyed by all. This event was a fundraiser for the Bent Tree Foundation Scholarship/Grant Program with the proceeds establishing the fund for scholarships and grants to be awarded in May 2012.
Run for the Roses 2012
On Saturday, May 5, 2012, the Bent Tree Foundation celebrated the running of the 138th Kentucky Derby with our “Run for the Roses” fundraiser in the Recreation Room at Club Tamarack from 5 – 7 p.m. Proceeds from the event will provide scholarships and grants for Pickens County students and teachers.
The 75 people in attendance celebrated with “mint juleps” and appetizers while perusing their “Win, Place, or Show” Derby winners. In addition, Wayne Duncan and “friends” won the silent auction bottle of Woodford Reserve donated by Trout’s owner and Bent Tree Foundation Board member, Jack Short. The ladies donned amazing hats for the event; and prizes were awarded to Jodi Thurmond for the “Most Creative” hat, to Marie Alderman for the“Most Elegant” hat, and to Linda Bonnette for her bear jockey hat that won “Most Humorous.”
The Bent Tree foundation would like to thank Zaxby’s and Bodacious Foods for their donations supporting this worthy cause.
